Description |
The purpose of this event is to illustrate how religion, culture, and social justice fundamentally influence our views of the environment. There are three parts to this event: (1) a panel discussion on environmental ethics, (2) an audience table discussion, and (3) a keynote speaker on climate justice. Our panelists include: Abby Terris from the Corvallis Zen Circle, Pastor John Friedrick from Oak Street Church in Silverton, Oregon, and Rabbi Phil Bressler from the Mid-Willamette Valley Jewish Community, Abby Mushin Terris from Corvallis Zen Circle, and Sami Ahmad Al-Abdrabbuh. The panel discussion will be moderated by Lynette de Silva, director of the Water Conflict Management and Transformation program at Oregon State University. The event will close with a presentation from David Wrathall, a professor of Climate Justice at the College of Earth, Ocean, and Atmospheric Science. Pizza will be provided.

Sami Ahmad Al-Abdrabbuh is the vice chair of Corvallis School Board and a member of several boards including the Corvallis Multicultural Literacy Center and Corvallis Sustainability Coalition steering committee. He is a doctoral candidate in the industrial engineering program at Oregon State University. He teaches engineering courses at the university including computational thinking, work systems engineering, engineering economics and project management. Sami was born in Tucson, Arizona and lived in Saudi Arabia and Bahrain before he called Oregon home. All views and opinions expressed here belong solely to Sami in his personal capacity. |
